O_o In Russian history were 4 “dark ages”: 1. Mongolian invasion back in 13 century. 2. Time of Troubles in beginning of 17 century. 3. Invasion of European nazis. 4. Dissolve of USSR (a lot of similar processes to Time of Troubles, in society even in usage similar terminology). Nowadays future looks bright and good, everyone waits almost accepted Lunar program (landing and habitable base) and development of nuclear tug (grounds tests successfully finished in 2018, this year maybe will be launched prototype) which open possibility to habitable Mars.

It is more incredible because whole country still was in ruins after WW2 and millions of people lived in barracks because cities only restored. Also helped (sound strange, btw) that Soviet intelligence knew about British and American preparations to nuclear war against USSR, so most resources and best minds were rerouted into nuclear and space programs (first of all, it is military program).

Actually in USSR existed program Interspace, regards to it Bulgaria got access to Soviet space technologies, students got education, Bulgaria built misc scientific equipments and parts for rockets/spaceships/space stations. Also USSR launched first Bulgarian cosmonaut and satellites.

xponen_ In “Chernobyl” almost nothing common with reality. Scientific fiction poorly based on true story.
