Okay so if we get a sustainable fusion reaction then how do we extract the energy of the fusion reaction? Well the answer is fast neutrons from the fusion reaction, and do you know what effect fast neutrons have on materials? Well for one thing, fast neutrons makes materials radioactive or at best transmute the materials. Does any one know what happens to a steel structure when bombarded by fast neutrons? Well one thing the fast neurons blast away the carbon atoms or chromium atoms that stabilize the crystal structure that makes plain iron into steel. So let's see ... the fast neutrons weaken the steel infrastructure of the fusion reactor, and the fast neutrons also make other materials into radioactive isotopes, which all add up to a reactor structure that has become radioactive waste. So sure, fusion itself avoids radioactive waste, but it does lay waste to the reactor itself. We would do a LOT better to perfect fission reactors, and in fact we do know how to do that. I hope you allow people to post links to other videos here, and assuming you do then I suggest watching this video about new ways to run a fission reactor. https://youtu.be/poPLSgbSO6k If I have to lay my bets then I would bet on fission rather than fusion as the better path.
