The rich can afford the higher prices because the higher price is a smaller fraction of their spending than it will be on poorer and less wealthy people. Trump will then use the revenue from the tariffs to offset tax cuts that benefit the wealthy. Tariffs are a mechanism to enrich wealthy people at the expense of people who have wealth. Tariffs are a mechanism of wealth transfer from the poor to the rich. Trump understands that very well, and supports. He simply lies about as a means of deception as opposed to a lack of understanding. I wish people would attribute Trump's lies to malice and motive rather than ignorance. Trump is a grifter and more clever than the marks, the American people, who he cheats.
