7,000 tons per year equals approx. 140,000 artillery shells that weigh 100 lbs each. A 155mm shell weighs about 100 lbs. thus 2,000 lbs. per ton would equal 20 artillery shells. 7,000 tons per per year equals 140,000 artillery shells. Current estimates have Russian forces now using about 19,000 to 20,000 artillery rounds per DAY, in contrast to the daily "quota" of 60,000 shells back in February 2022. That means that the ports you mentioned would take a YEAR to supply enough artillery shells for one WEEK at the current rate of Russian consumption. You would think that someone who could read a map AND who could do arithmetic would realize that those two ports are completely inadequate to supply just the artillery shells without even adding in the other material like fuel and food and spare parts. So let's look at arithmetic as well as geography when evaluating logistics.

@robertsteele474 please quantify. That was my point. He said 70, 000 tons per YEAR, and acted as if that was a lot when in fact it is very little when you consider how much tonnage in ammunition is needed per WEEK. In fact, railroad is more efficient because you have to load and unload a ship even if the cargo is in nice tidy containers. You can avoid that extra step if you use a railroad, plus the railroad can go to many different places and unload only there. I think the General got it right, and this commentator failed to do his homework. Always interesting when people avoid doing the basic arithmetic. I makes me doubt other statements made and conclusions drawn by the commentator.
