Western Ukraine had been part of the Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth and the Polish language has influenced the Ukrainian Language making Ukrainian a different language from Russian. Quite remarkable that a political union like the Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth embraced three different languages from 1563 to 1795. Also, it was the Russia and Catherine the Great who delivered the final fatal blow to the Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth when Russia annexed Ukrainian territory especially "Novo Russiya" that Putin tried to annex. The reconstitution of the Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth is Russia's worst nightmare, and Putin may have laid the foundation for it.
