The principle difference between the NATO favored massive attack on a single front rather than attacks on separate fronts had to do with how many casualties would occur in a short amount of time. For example, there were as many US casualties in one day on just Omaha beach in the Normandy as there were in twenty (20) years of the Afghan War. The level of US casualties on Omaha beach was kept a secret and was never told to the US population because the Government feared that the US people would want to stop the war.
