One of my cousins was a fighter pilot in Vietnam and it took him sone years to get accepted and retrained as a commercial pilot. The airlines want the pilots who flew cargo planes in the military. A pilot who can fly barrel rolls and dog fighting is not what you want flying a commercial aircraft, and the reverse it true. You don't retrain a commercial pilot to fly a figher plane overnight.
