Actually, it's only changed for the weak and dependent such as yourself. You couldn't survive on your own or take care of yourself, those of us who hunt can. You want to be weak, be weak, I could care less, just don't expect me to be. I also see the reality we as humans have to be responsible to the ecosystem, that responsibility has proven to be most effective when hunting is used as a management tool. Nature creates no balance on it's own, only risky population swings.

You can keep playing the denial game, but that is just ignorant. Wolves are the only year around predator the elk have here. Bears do play a small role in the early spring, but only for a very short period of time. Cats play an even smaller roll. Hunters are limited to bulls for the most part, which is why we can hunt, and the herd still GROWS. Populations are managed by their breeding stock numbers and when you lose a high percentage of pregnant cows, the numbers decline. Learn a little biology

Actually there is a bunch of proof, if you took more than two minutes a day and did some research, it's all out there. Lions mainly hunt deer, our elk herds were healthy BEFORE the wolf was introduced, they are the only new player in the system, and the studies also prove they are at fault for the decline and instability in our elk herds. Wolves actually take their worst toll in the winter, when they target pregnant cows, our breeding stock is being systematically wiped out.

Our elk numbers are crashing from one simple reason, over predation of females and calves by wolves, our aging elk herd is created by one thing, over predation of cows and calves by wolves. Our elk will not recover for one reason, over predation of cows and calves by wolves. The simple reality is this, we need to thin out these wolves to acceptable numbers that do not crash the rest of the entire ecosystem

@Scrap5000 We have had three in Idaho and one in Montana in the last few weeks. These people do not consider it an attack unless someone dies, and every other excuse they can dream of is exposed. There is a dead wolf in Montana that was shot while attacking two hunters, the fact the wolf lost, does not make it anything but an attack. Two ID hunters were run out of the mountains while being stalked and pushed by wolves even after warning shots were fired and direct contact was made

Their claims that the wolves are now decreasing is also a biased claim, few of these wolves starve, instead the surplus wolves disperse, still leaving the dwindled herd under excessive predation while spreading disease and excessive predation to other areas. Eventually, and this is validated through the Russians extensive research, they move to domestic animals and human attacks increase.

@animal Those populations can be controlled to any specific number wanted through hunting, that is the point Annie, you have proven nothing. Reduced herd sizes, when determined as needed are created by harvesting a predetermined number of females from the herd. When it is determined that the herd needs relief to expand, those seasons are shortened and female harvest reduced. Wildlife management 101 and not something that can be managed through the use of uncontrollable predators such as wolves

Most of my hunting is deer and predators, bears mainly. You have no idea about our way of life out here, or how truly capable men really are. I am someone very capable of taking care of both myself and my family. You on the other hand couldn't scrounge up a single meal without someone else having some hand in it. Actually, those biologist along with hunters are the ones that have brought most wildlife populations up dramatically since 1900. They did it by using science and establishing season, rules and limits. You can't just claim the science is flawed when it has a proven track record of success, unless of course, your just ignorant. They don't work directly for the hunters and are not by any means obligated to them. Grow up and get some actual facts.

Smith, Bangs and most other of these nuts and even many IDFG biologist have been and ARE guilty of this. They are simply out to prove their bad science good, truth be damned. When study's show an 80% decline, cow/calf ratios at less that 15/100, 1 year calf survival tanked and the average age of the herd at 8+.....

That doesn't change the facts. They are legally bound to manage our wildlife to the benefit of sustainability and health of the wildlife. They are not bound to promote hunting at all costs. And yes, they say and do stuff all the time that restricts hunters, because if the science backs up an issue, that's just the way it is. They do a great job when their hands aren't tied and they are allowed do their job. No one in F&G is trying to eradicate the wolves, even if most hunters want that.

Well, actually, I do grow them. I have both an orchard and a large garden. I either raise or hunt my meat. Like I said, self reliant. Bull/cow ratios are one of the factors that are used to set seasons a quotas to ensure that those ratios are not out of functional parameters.
