Bears do play a small role in the early spring, but only for a very short period of time. Cats play an even smaller roll. Hunters are limited to bulls for the most part, which is why we can hunt, and the herd still GROWS. Populations are managed by their breeding stock numbers and when you lose a high percentage of pregnant cows, the numbers decline. Learn a little biology

  20. Actually there is a bunch of proof, if you took more than two minutes a day and did some research, it's all out there. Lions mainly hunt deer, our elk herds were healthy BEFORE the wolf was introduced, they are the only new player in the system, and the studies also prove they are at fault for the decline and instability in our elk herds. Wolves actually take their worst toll in the winter, when they target pregnant cows, our breeding stock is being systematically wiped out.

Two ID hunters were run out of the mountains while being stalked and pushed by wolves even after warning shots were fired and direct contact was made

Bull/cow ratios are one of the factors that are used to set seasons a quotas to ensure that those ratios are not out of functional parameters. I don't think so pal, they have very limited migration that rarely takes them outside of their management zones. I take it you have never read Caugley, even he states the limited migration of elk. One of them being a cattle ranch where they were predating cattle, and in less that three days after release, they were predating cattle here. Ed brought cattle killers here intentionally.

You just simply can not remove the breeding stock (cows) and the future (calves) out of any herd as such excessive rates without destroying the population. Just as has been shown and proven in many of Idaho's elk zones. I am sorry, the hard facts and the loss of herds shows my points to be true.

You wolves have created a 80+% drop in elk herds in many areas Annie, that is just a plain fact, on top of that drop are the destruction of cows and calves.
