What do they mean "No known problems with the car"? The car was electric, wasn't it!? Well that's a problem right there.
97
They called 911, and when the operator asked which do you need, police, ambulance or fire department, the caller realized that he would be calling himself and hung up.
36
The heat signature of a burning battery will be visible from afar.
33
Obviously, Bijay Pandey of Irving, Texas, secretly hates his wife, otherwise he would have never purchased that EV for her. And he did it on the cheap, the scoundrel. The battery pack was damaged, and the car "wasn't reading voltage correctly," which might be because it was reading in another language.
30
That would include crowded cities.
29
This sort of thing can be rather discouraging.
21
Obviously, there will be a shortage ICE vehicles, which will drive ICE car prices up for both new and used vehicles. There could be a new market developing for used ICE cars imported from other countries, but the government might try to interfere with that.
16
They are Malthusians, with a twist. They want you to reduce use of resources, but not themselves.
16
I have a better idea. Let the new Jaguar build military vehicles, in all the new colours. Jaguar is going all electric, so production of self-propelled artillery vehicles will dovetail nicely with manufacture of their fancy new cars. For that matter, have Jaguar create military uniforms in the style they introduced in their recent ad.
15
The managers responsible for switching to EV buses have not done their research, and should be retrained for another city job, like dog catcher. By 5 years ago, there was plenty of evidence that heavy things cannot run on batteries and stll operate to the same standards as ICE vehicles. And not all of the cities were forced to go electric by state or federal governments.
14
Taking delivery of a classic ICE car is as electrifying as it gets and cannot be improved upon.
14
Or they are calling you stupid.
13
One more reason. In places that receive a lot of snow, it's fairly common to have a long column of vehicles stuck for hours on the freeway. Heaters in EVs will drain the battery, and some may run out of charge completely. Once snow plows clear the road and ICE vehicles begin to move on, dead EVs will sit there and block everyone else behind them. As an EV owner, this is not how you want to make new friends with the other drivers stuck behind you.
13
That no-renewable weather condition already has a name in English - the Doldrums.
12
That's one way to fix things.
11
"Looney by any other name would be just as bonkers."
8
The EV battery industry has nothing on technologies like Quantum Computing, where very clever theorists and engineers have for many decades maintained exciting hopes and expectations with ever increasing benefits that could transform civilization. Compared to Quantum Computing devotees, EV battery researchers are amateurs.
7
In taxing cars by weight, the authorities should include the driver's weight in the calculation. If weight makes a difference, then using total weight makes sense, plus it would motivate people to stay fit.
7
Road rage will now include charging rage. Tempers will flare if someone else plugs in his EV car and adds another 30 minutes to your charging time.
7
That was the whole idea right from the start.
7
@madeinaustralia2020 Same in the US and Canada, unless you only go to the nearest RV park.
7
Charging it is generally bad for the battery.
6
They already planned for that. First of all, diesel generators won't be allowed. And you won't be able to get fuel unless you are putting it into your car. And that's not all they can do, as "The Cat in the Hat" likes to say.
6
We also want a dashcam POV of the whole thing.
6
It could be a Woke car, and demand that the cop uses proper pronouns, like they/them.
5
It's painfully obvious that EVs are only for people with lots of time and money on their hands. People who really don't have to be anywhere at any specified time, like the homeless. But then the government could finance the homeless and get them off the street at the same time.
5
@Taff2493 That was for anyone not yet aware of it, of whom there are still many.
5
Not here. Maybe somewhere else.
5
Yes, but it's all worth it, because after us the Billionaires will have the Earth to themselves.
5
It works a little bit in Tasmania. It's a small place, and has a lot of dams producing hydro power.
5
Buy two. You eventually won't be able to buy spare parts if the push to Net-Zero continues.
5
They would also have to supply very long skewers.
4
The concept of EV demonstrator cars is rather amusing. Why would you want to demonstrate for potential customers the inherent impracticality and inconvenience of owning an EV. But I guess those things are not revealed during a 10 minute test drive. A fair test drive ought to include a pit stop at a charging station, running out of juice in the countryside, and an occasional battery fire.
4
It's plainly obvious that the questioner is smart, and the respondents are not.
4
Also a battery on fire light, so you don't have to wonder why it's so hot in the car.
4
I think that Tavares is actually aware of what's what, but he has got to skate through the current political environment to move the company forward.
4
Unfortunately the adage "he who laughs last laughs the best" still applies in this case.
4
@KoudZ That would mean farm workers could only work half days at best
4
@hibongs804 I refuse to pronounce pronouns.
4
@doncarlodivargas5497 Since India owns it, they should have named it JaGaur, to honour the Gaur along with jaguar.
4
India is virtue signaling at UK's expense. "Look, India is Green."
4
Will Ferrari provide headphones for a more realistic experience?
3
What they didn't say is that Santa can only go 130 miles one way, and he will have to jettison some weight to even get that far. It looks like he will be stuck in Nunavut to charge his batteries, and then pretend on Boxing Day that Amazon was late making deliveries.
3
And you can go even further if you offload any plus sized passengers at the start of every hill and wait for them at the top of the hill.
3
Once upon a time it also happened in cars at a drive-in theater with a new girlfriend.
3
Many EV owners didn't own up to hating their electric vehicle for various reasons, vanity being just one of them. The real number of EV owners who desperately want to revert back to ICE vehicles is at least 60%, and will keep growing because many are recent EV owners and haven't yet had the pleasure of experiencing the full monty of what electric vehicles have to offer.
3
So a lot of poor elderly people with mobility challenges will not be able to rely on their transportation system. I suppose the government believe that they weren't going anywhere important and didn't have to get there on time.
3
But you've got to admit, anything could happen.
2
At a G20 dinner attended by South Korean Prime Minister, it would probably be a faux pas to serve duck soup.
2
If that Danish article is correct, Jaguar would be pricing their 2026 cars at over USD 140 thousand. That's around the price range of the failed upscale Audi EV. It's possible that the electric Jaguar company will reassess their strategy and the actual vehicles will be affordable for the masses, while still having a sport luxury feel and look. We'll see.
