  3. Leasing the EV battery spreads out individual risk, kind of like insurance on an EV battery would. Either way you pay a periodic fee, and costs associated with battery ownership are taken care of. Depending on how easily and conveniently the battery swap will work, the scheme could be successful. The biggest hurdle will be creation of sufficient geographic coverage and an appropriate number of stations such that the process is efficient and convenient. I would say it's extremely risky, mostly because of the difficulty of building up the necessary infrastructure.
