@hawkhunter3256 Oh, you are from Germany! Nice. I have heard that German healthcare system is the best in the EU. I am originally from Eastern Europe but came to the US over 20 years ago. I was appalled by how poor the preventative medicine here in the US. It is almost like healthcare in America is disabled (walking on one leg). A good healthcare is supposed to equally address both prevention and treatment which is not the case here. And it is all because of greed which is number one problem in America. It costs way more to treat a problem than to prevent it.

No, lightning, the biggest problem with our healthcare is not the cost, the biggest problem is that we get pretty much NO preventative care. If we could have access to preventative care and it was covered by insurance, the healthcare cost would be WAY down. The problem is, they (everybody in the medical field) want profit. They really do not have our best interest at heart. It is much more profitable for them to treat the disease than to prevent it. There is a German documentary that just came out (in English) that you can watch on Youtube. The video is called "Big Pharma — How much power do drug companies have?". I really hope you can watch it. You will learn a lot.

@lightning6718 To me, a problem is something that we can solve. The high healthcare cost is pretty much a given. The drug companies have too much money and power for an ordinary American to do anything. I guess everything is a given nowadays. The drug companies also will not allow alternative medicine (preventative medicine) to be covered by insurance or for the FDA to approve natural treatments and prevention.

She sounds Russian (Eastern European). I was so curious to see what you wife looks like and wow, you've impressed me. Now, when you have such a young and beautiful wife, and will have children, you MUST stay healthy. I hope you have implemented some of the advice that the integrative medicine doctor gave you this past summer. You need all the health you can get.

@hawkhunter3256 Right and the US spends more money on healthcare per person than any other country (way more than Switzerland which is holding 2nd place), it becomes even more rubbish :) I am glad for the Germans. Merkel was a very good leader. Wish we had one like her here :)))

@etripp8187 I see. Is it possible they can get a smaller monthly payment from their Amish banks? They managed to build a nice house for less so they might have their banks too. It is just a guess. I know very little about The Amish and even less about mortgages because I am an immigrant.

Yes, insurance is horrible but the medical system isn't great either. Sure, diagnostics and surgical procedures are great in the US but treatment leaves a lot to be desired. If there is no money for research because Big Pharma will not get profit from a drug, then they will just not authorize that drug to be used for certain diseases even if it results in many lives being lost. It is not just bad, it is criminal NOT to give people the drug that saves lives.
