I am in the USA, and I was taken to the ER in an ambulance several weeks ago for a possible mini-stroke (I called my clinic, explained my symptoms, and the nurse told me to call the ambulance). Upon arrival, when I was still on the stretcher, the ER doctor checked me for exactly TWO minutes, said he did not think I had a stroke, and that I had to wait in a lobby with everyone else; the wait would have been several hours, with no food or water. I asked my relative to take me home. I owe the clinic $213 for the two-minute check-up at the ER. I have not yet received the bill for an ambulance ride. I imagine it will be well over a thousand, and I have insurance.
