According to Paul Kennedy we are seeing a population boom from poor under developed countries (due to medicine etc) similar to what caused the British to leave for America, Australia etc back in 1600s only difference is; then you had more developed countries spreading so even with dominion over the less technologically advanced it brings technology and knowledge, medicine etc (benefits). At the moment we see a huge influx of less educated under developed nations mixing with the rich ones which is going to increasingly cause conflict as instead of speeding progress it will slow things.
