Brexit Refugee It's always shocking to me how poor and/or dishonest people's reasoning becomes when they broach this topic.
Basically no one seriously argues that Russia had zero influence. That certainly wasn't the claim Sam made. If you stopped the Russiagate chatter in your head for two seconds and listened, you'd know that Sam said there is no evidence that Russian influence was decisive.
That's just a factual statement supported by data on how much the Russians spent, the timing of the ads, the quality and content of the ads, how people interacted with them, and the greater context. Whatever effect Russian ads played in the election, it's almost impossible to disaggregate it from the political context, and it's much more likely that corporate influence, Clinton's decades-long bad public image, feeble campaign strategy etcetera played decisive roles.
It's also objectively false that everything Trump has done benefited Russia over the US, from his placing tariffs on them, expelling diplomats, and launching strikes against its allies. Trump has shown a high degree of permissiveness toward Russia and other authoritarian countries, but the claim that he's only acted in Russia's interests is silly liberal nonsense that seeks to personalize politics rather than to understand it as a system, which exists with a certain degree of overdetermination.

Brexit Refugee I don't care where you're from. If you're looking for the idiot in this conversation, find the nearest mirror.
I didn't mention any news sources; in fact, I didn't mention the media at all, so if anyone's got a wee little battle going on in their head, again, it's you buddy.
Interesting bringing up the French election though, because if Russia's Facebook memes were "decisive" in the US election, surely they'd've been in the French election...oh wait, no, they weren't, not even close. It's almost like their real effect is negligible and that we should be paying proportionately more attention to immediate, endemic, systemic problems. Huh...
