@aarn700 If you're talking about Wisconsin, there are a few things you're willfully ignorant of. 1) Clinton never campaigned in Wisconsin despite urging from staff and Bill Clinton. Shocking that she lost a state she didn't bother to visit. 2) It's not certain GP voters would have voted for Clinton. That's a baseless assumption. 3) But let's assume it's not. Clinton gets all of Stein's voters and narrowly beats Trump by about 10k votes. Of course, if Stein's voters go to Clinton, Gary Johnson's should go to Trump, putting him in the lead by almost 100k votes. So... 4) Trump won pivot counties (counties that voted for Obama previously) by 580k votes and an average margin of victory of over 11%. 5) While I can't find information specific to Wisconsin, nationally 5% of Democrats voted for Trump. 1% of all voters voted for Stein, only a fraction of which would've been registered Democrats. It stands to reason that with so many pivot counties, the number of Democratic Trump voters was at least the national average if not higher. I could keep going on, but it should be obvious that microfocusing on GP voters is a narratively bankrupt, numerically illiterate, and politically inept attempt to scapegoat a tiny fraction of the electorate and to avoid dealing with substantial problems that Democrats actually have control over.

@nura1627 1) While we'll never know for certain, based on current evidence, Gore did not lose the election in Florida. Had he challenged results statewide rather than handing the election to Bush, he'd've been president. The entire modern narrative of scapegoating Greens for Democratic failures begins here - which is also where it immediately falls apart. 2) 97k Floridians voted for Nader, about 20k of whom were registered Democrats. On the other hand, 300k Democrats voted for Bush. Somehow only one of these groups gets blamed for Gore losing (he didn't), and it's the smaller one that Gore largely had no claim to in the first place. I'm sorry Democrats have rotted your brain, but at some point you have to acknowledge reality. They're not losing elections because 1% voted GP.

@mirmalchik I saw a comment once where the Biden camp texted this guy asking who'd he'd like to see as VP. He replied, Bernie. They texted back saying they were removing him from their list.

@mirmalchik Honestly, pie in the sky wish, it'd've been nice if there'd been an organized, disciplined, public boycott of Biden in blue states and a conditional boycott elsewhere predicated on the adoption of certain policies. Much too late for that now. Probably never was a chance of it, but absent a genuine workers' party, that seems like one way to strong arm the Democrats.

@mirmalchik Yeah, text bankers are instructed not to do stuff like that, so it's certainly possible the story is just that, a story. But I had a similarly brusque interaction with someone claiming to be texting for Biden Buttigieg, so, I kind of believe it. I hope DSA can do that too.

@nura1627 For Krystal and Saagar it is - that's their grift - but as the other two commenters have pointed out, in general it's not a well-thought out take. There are plenty of cases of Democrats fighting progressives and leftists tooth and nail while rolling over for Republicans. Gore conceding to Bush, Obama's Great Compromise, Clinton's anti-unionism...

@nura1627 Your um "quip" doesn't even apply in this case since Gore could've sought a clarification of the standards or sought a recount under a different standard. The SC ruling wasn't final in the sense that it prohibited a further recount. Gore did that. It's weird how the perspective changes when you actually know something about the history of the situation rather than lamely quoting self-regarding jurists.
