Did anyone catch this? "Did you talk to your immediate predecessor about how the vice presidency worked?" "I did. No, I didn't talk to him about the job. [3 minutes later.] It probably sounds like I'm making this up when I say 'learned from.' But I spoke to this man repeatedly about this job." And how uncomfortable and contemptuous does Biden look as Mondale is speaking?

People joke about how all you have to do to win Trump's approval is ingratiate yourself to him, but apparently all you need for Joe is a warm reception and sandwich squares (on top of, obviously, a shared class camaraderie).

Americans do have this weird fixation on being fair to both sides and not appearing partisan. For some reason having a strong opinion and opposition to state terror is a political weakness. We laugh at how naive Obama was to actually think he could be a uniter—usually leaders are supposed to be exempt from the delusion of bipartisanship—but it's still a concept many voters think is important. Look at how easy it was for the Democrats to rehabilitate George Bush. It goes without saying that "both sides" in this equation is really just 2 variations on the same side, what Gore Vidal called the left and right wings of the Business Party.

How do you figure that? Admittedly, I don't know the specifics, or to what extent if any he would've been involved, but Mondale was VP while the Carter administration was supporting horrible atrocities in East Timor, El Salvador, Afghanistan, etc. I've got to imagine he shares some culpability for those crimes.

Joe Biden is going to be a strong cup of coffee for anyone who still thinks Hillary was the only one who could lose to Trump. There's nothing that special about Clinton that some other terrible Democratic candidate can't duplicate.

@redfestivabo259 Maybe you haven't noticed this, but Trump says a lot of things that aren't really true, especially in service of his ego.

@redfestivabo259 I'm not a Democrat, never supported the Trump-as-Manchurian-candidate story, and so I can tell you that Trump is a massive lier. If you can't accept that I don't know how any conversation with you could be productive. It'd be like trying to argue with someone who insists the Earth is flat.
