Like Shep Smith, Geraldo functions as an occasional innocuous dissenter whose very dissent, however sincere, only serves to validate and reinforce the notion among Fox's viewership that the company is "fair and balanced" and that real struggles over justice and humanity can terminate in a masturbatory contentment to engage in polite disagreement that still manages to conceal deaf malice, all the while horribly mangling the facts and history of the situation at hand, a minor fluctuation in opinion only sensible for the flatness of the ideological landscape in which it pops into brief existence.
