One problem with that history. Obama may have ultimately been a centrist, but he he ran in 2008 as a left wing progressive. Hillary ran as a moderate and lost. Kerry ran as a moderate and lost. Gore ran as a centrist and lost. Sure, Gore and Hillary lost narrowly (and won the popular vote), but that's not an endorsement of centrism--it's an indictment. If Obama's hollow progressivism can win big, genuine progressivism can as well.
