@user-wl2xl5hm7k Debt, The Democracy Project, and Fragments of an Anarchist Anthropology are the 3 books I'd recommend to someone new to Graeber. Bullshit Jobs and Utopia of Rules are a bit lighter and worth reading as well. Just about all of his work centered on theories of value, beginning with Toward an Anthropological Theory of Value. You see it in a book like Debt: The First 5000 Years, which examines how societies construct relationships of obligation through value, and how they abolish it. In focusing on theories of value, Graeber was able to do what many recent leftist intellectuals have shied away from, namely, to open up critique to the possibility of grand historical narratives that questioned "common sense" about value and the structure of society.
