A big reason not to vote yes is that the prop stipulates a 7/8 majority to amend the legislation, basically guaranteeing that it remains law for a long, long time.

Same reasons you'll see some workers argue against unions - corporate propaganda, fear-mongering, economic extortion, and a lifetime of brainwashing. One major reason to vote against it is that the bill requires a 7/8 legislative majority to amend it, all but guaranteeing it remains law into perpetuity. It's a blatant attempt to solidify corporate, anti-worker power into law.

@mrnumbers5306 Teachers unions are unions. Every union is a union, but not police unions, or any other association, like prison guard "unions," whose purpose is the repression of the working class and management of inequality. Period.

As much as I hate to say it, I'm afraid it'll pass. Uber, Lyft, et al have pumped so much money into their propaganda (and getting groups like MADD - who've never made questionable legislative calls - on board). Californians have routinely voted against their economic self-interest in part because these predatory groups outspend pro-labor, pro-consumer advocates many times over.

@Amenti_H Yep, that was indeed sarcasm. Good job figuring that out.

@mrnumbers5306 Police unions aren't unions. Educate yourself.

@mrnumbers5306 How is that clarifying my position? Can you not read what I wrote?

@mrnumbers5306 It sounds like you're just trying to be an uninformed contrarian.

@benzero75 Thanks for giving an example of the exact kind of indoctrination I was talking about. It has always been the goal of capital to "redefine" a "new class" of worker that has fewer rights, is more vulnerable, more atomized, and easier to exploit. This is just another warp in that pattern. Prop 22 enshrines that agenda into a nearly irrevocable law. Some people just love their chains.

Amazing that they're still regarded as credible.

@benzero75 I'm sorry, but you don't understand. An acquaintance with the trade union movement of the 20th century would help. The UAW, in its recent rejection of police unions, put it plainly when it said that police unions serve first and foremost as an arm of the state, not as a labor union. If I use a violin as a hammer, is it really a musical instrument any more? The uses and functions and purposes of structures matter as much as the structure itself, which only expresses certain potentials, and police unions reject the fundamental purpose of the union movement.
