  1. I would just like to point out that there is a difference between admitting that Assad was not responsible for the Sarin gas attacks and admitting that there is no evidence for it. Mattis can admit that they have no evidence and it can still be the case that Assad was responsible for the attacks. It's also possible that the Syrian army was responsible for the attack without Assad's direct orders, and it's possible that neither party was responsible. Mattis only said that they have no evidence Assad was responsible. It's also worth mentioning that the piece Jimmy is quoting from is an opinion piece in Newsweek by Ian Wilkie, whose bio states he's a lawyer and terrorism expert but gives no credentials for what makes him an expert on terrorism, a phrase that has about as much meaning as "all natural" does for food products. https://www.salon.com/2012/08/15/the_sham_terrorism_expert_industry/  Which is just to say, be careful about the limits of particular claims and who's making them.
