  3. $1000 works out to $2.74 per day over a year, so a $2 hourly increase—hell, even a dollar—would make a much bigger difference. One dollar increase would give you around $2080, or twice the "bonus," and of course $2 would be four times as much.

  4. filonin2 Unfortunately capitalism 101 is that you should try to pay your employees as little as possible. Undercut them; discourage unions (because muh marketz); hire scabs; hire muscle; automate; and if none of that works, offshore your jobs.

Even worse, the "one time" $1000 bonus for employees gets taxed, and I happen to know that some companies, like AT&T did some squirrelly shit with the way it was dispersed so that employees were lucky to get like half of that. And then, the $1000 bonus pales in comparison to the $4000-$9000 in increased wages touted by the Republicans and CEOs if they passed their tax legislation.  Lastly, in the case of AT&T, as they payed 200,000 employees that meager bonus, they turned around and laid off thousands of others, so the "bonus" wasn't payed for by the tax cuts, but through lay offs, which hurt many more workers.  Those. fucking. assholes. where's. my. pitchfork!?
