@morenitomoreno1282 Maybe it's like how the military has recruits read anti-war literature, or the Church has its congregation read books by atheists—only for the purpose of debunking them, never to take their arguments seriously. I think Chomsky says something somewhere about the indoctrinating effect this has. What's the CIA afraid of? In a highly propagandized society like the US, inundated with information, who's going to notice? They're watching Jack Ryan from The Office save us from terrorists. And if they do notice, what're they, impotent like Byron the Bulb, going to do about it? Nothing. And if they're joining the CIA, they already know that information, to some degree, and still believe in the civilizing mission.

What does the CIA stand to gain by not archiving information that you can find in any bookstore, public library, or shadow library? They have Noam Chomsky on there, too. The ready availability of information is a feature of a propagandized "open society" like the US, not an inherent weakness. Also, you're giving the CIA too much credit. They're dangerous, but also incredibly stupid. Couldn't kill Castro with 600 attempts.

@planetofthegrapes7838 Remember when Nixon secretly undermined Johnson's peace negotiations to boost his electoral chances? That resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people, overwhelming Vietnamese, all for essentially the same terms Johnson was arranging. Is that not in "living memory"? That's not to mention the war itself was started by a US deception which was further precipitated by the US and France cancelling elections in Vietnam when it became clear their preferred candidate would get trounced.

@cupiduspacis4209 Grayzone's a pretty superficial campist, contrarianist org that mysteriously funds itself with chump change from Patreon (like 10k-20k or something). Their reporting has a lot of problems, eg their reporting on Venezuela and Syria. Give them a closer look is all I'll say.

@cupiduspacis4209 Grayzone ends up doing a lot of misleading reporting because their guiding principle is just "US bad; everyone else good." I wish I were being unfair, but that's the level of sophistication people like Max have. Maybe Black & White Zone would've been a better name. The issue with their funding is you can't run a news organization—any organization—on the amount of money they're taking in, which means they aren't being transparent about how they're funded.
