  2.  @tnk4me4  That, plus the fact that 1) the research that claim about a "word gap" was originally based on was pretty flawed, and many subsequent studies have failed to reproduce its results, 2) the study and studies like it relate to participatory language, like when a parent speaks to a child, not passive language, like when a record player is playing, and 3) why a record player when most households have TVs and other devices capable of playing audio? Besides the obvious stigma (and developmental concerns) about plopping your kid in front of the TV to "hear more words."
