Japan's pacifism stance is due to the collective trauma the nukes inflicted on them, but this could happen again if they can't defend themselves at the hands of an aggressor. Also if japan hadn't lost the war or (either by winning or reaching a white peace before America reached the japanise mainland) there wouldn't have been any nukes to traumatize them. Pacifism won't protect them from that kind of trauma again, it would only prevent them from defending themselves and prevent bad apples in their military from committing war crimes.
