  1. considering fungi were the first flora to blanket landmasses and evolved into the 1st trees, I would say their the perfect candidates to use on a barren alien rock.

  2.  @DegreesOfThree  my apologies, I heard somewhere they were the 1st to evolve outer bark and true wood, eventually trading spores for seeds. Basically going from fungi, to ferns, to trees; now I can't find the dang source I heard it from despite it being about a week ago.
