  1. Unfortunately a lot of companies for which I worked had management with 0 development experience, so they will take all sorts of crappy shortcuts, delivering a cap product. They fail to understand a simple concept, called GIGO = Garbage In, Garbage Out. If you have garbage objectives and priorities and a garbage roadmap and backlog, your product will be garbage, no matter if there are working 10 or 100 developers on it.

  2. I've done Pair programming via video call. Just find a tool that has no lag and good resolution and you're good to go. Only problem appears when your pair lives in a region with big time gap (more/less than 3 hours can be a problem sometimes)

  3. If you can bypass the dumb manager, do it. If the manager doesn't like it go 2 levels above him or her :) That's what I did. The result: I got a new manager.
