  1. The first step in dealing with a bad boss is finding a new role inside or outside the company. Don't bend backwards and try to make the guy improve his attitude. He won't. Do your job properly and if he's an asshole, change companies and sayonara.

  2. HR has zero power towards managers. If the manager is high enough the food chain of a company, he will get away even with doing illegal and unethical stuff. It usually takes a former or current employee to blow the whistle and make the shit explode and even then, they might do everything in their power to mitigate, diminish or simply swipe it under the rug.
