  10. The problem with housing is way too many folk appear to think that landlords have no right to make a reasonable profit. No, they shouldn't;'t beripping people off but this "hand the landlord, eat the rich" BS is not helping. The vast majority of landlords are folk who started out as working-class people, either tradies or small business owners who didn't buy 100k 4x4s or wakeboard boats but bought houses instead. Some still have one or two houses, some have built that into a dozen or so properties and can now semi retire as landlords. To me, most of the people who scream and yell at these folk are simply jealous of the position these folk are in thru hard work and smart investment. Why is being successful so looked down upon in this country? Landlords in particular get the short shift but if it wasn't for them a heckin' lot of people would be in tents or worse. If I have 800k tied up in a place (and I should say I don't own investment properties) that tenants continually fuck up (as they do) costing me 10s of 1000s in repairs why the hell should I not be entitled to a decent return on my investment? If the market average says my place is worth 600 a week I should get 600 a week. OK, if I'm asking 800 a week "because I can" then I'm a cunt but it's still my right to do so, like it or not. Most of the people in that position spent their time on the factory floor (so to speak) but were smart with what they did with their money and it shits me that they get treated so badly for investing in real estate and not expensive recreational toys. e need more of them not less, the more people investing in rental properties the more there will be and the less they will cost. Supply and demand say that prices right now are fecking high, that's a free market. If you don't like that then move to China or another communist country. If that's your thing go for it, just don't bring it on here. /rant
