@davehallett810 gold? Where not on that old chestnut He had a plan to recover from the Banking crisis and 2 years in it was slowly turning things round. The cuts he was going to make where across the board and no where as severe as Austerity a 2013 analysis showed Tory Austerity was for every £1 saved in public sector removing £1.60 from the wider economy. Faced with this evidence in 2013 Austerity became a political choice leading to Camerons tax cuts which by 2019 had ballooned the deficit to 92% of GDP from 62 in 2010 and stagnating the economy on the way with a negative 2% wage growth and a £ to Euro rate dropping from 1.50 Anyway the Tories are toast the levels of corruption and incompetence has ballooned with Johnson and now Truss

@davehallett810 Why do you think Starmer is a champagne socialist there are a fair few of his shadow cabinet are from the North. Take Reeve for instance who will be the architect of a Labour economic policy she's from Leeds just down the road from me studied at Oxford and then the LSE her work on what's called the every day economy is worth a read. The policy of introducing new publicly owned generation is something many on the centre / centre left have been advocating rather than full on nationalization. I thought Corbyn was awful
