There is next to no wage inflation in the system we are suffering from Supply Side Corporate inflation which is commodity based. There is also 1.3 million vacancies and full employment of the unemployment total on the books 1.5% are disabled or special needs 1.5% are unemployable (drink drugs crime feckless pick your poison) leaving a small percentage in the wrong place / wrong skills or just changing jobs/careers.

When the curtain fell on migration a million people had left the UK 10% where UK residents the reason this hurts so much is where sitting on a demographic time bomb with an ageing population and a low birth rate. Government where told the consequences of a hard Brexit that it would knacker the economy leading to acute labour shortages but it was labelled project fear. We are also undergoing a brain drain if your skilled then there is no problem getting a work visa in the EU they have shortages as well, the IT company I used to work for before early retirement relocated to Holland leaving a satellite in the UK moving the bulk of its staff or offering redundancy. The only way of increasing work participation without migration is investment in Women and young couples to provide the environment where its not a huge financial burden to have kids often removing one of the couple from the workforce by providing subsidized high quality childcare after school clubs holiday clubs social housing child tax credits.

@SlimTortoise my Dad came to the UK during the war and stayed I applied for and got Polish citizenship last year and my wife is eligible to stay in the EU beyond the 90 days as a spouse only proviso is she doesn't work. My son has dual nationality now as well and there are millions who I presume fit in this category. You just need an Irish passport and jobs done

@SlimTortoise Brexit is a force multiplier you put trade sanctions on a country everything gets more expensive due to the massive amounts of red tape and delays. We have a worse situation with HGV drivers because our ability to recruit is reduced and we've added additional travel times and costs to exports. Also our economy is built on immigrant workers at one point it was calculated 80% of hospitality staff in London were from the EU We have an ageing population a birth rate of 1.6 migration outwards of 50,000 per annum you need 400,000 extra workers just to stand still economically or your into contraction and stagflation.
