I mean who wants lower bills, I mean those poor oil and gas companies how will their shareholders survive if the UK is energy Independence with abundant cheap renewable energy

If you make your house energy efficient and install solar and batteries you'll have lower bills, capital payback is now under 6 years

@MinkieWinkle you have zero clue how the grid works Or How load balancing works on it Battery storage needs zero maintenance is always on and is software controlled, the savings on gas are off the scale your talking capital repayment within a year

They receive funding from the fossil lobby who are afraid their business model will be broken coz who is going to vote for higher energy prices as renewables are cheaper

@oliverearnshaw6189 Since when? Back in the UK battery prices and panel prices have plummeted and both are Zero Rated for VAT if done as an install. Plus Our energy prices are sky high for standard rate, if you have an EV you can get electricity 70% cheaper on an overnight tariff and the daily feed in tariff is double that. Your living in the past

Renewable energy is cheaper than fossil

@davidfoster1055 I have one it's good for top up heating my house is now A+ insulated with underfloor heating on the ground floor. I't's not really cost effective to push the heating right up for a couple of hours while we watch TV and a fire is nice.

@MinkieWinkle Renewables have been the cheapest on the grid since 2020 before the energy crisis. In 2023 Sunak spent 72 billion on energy support because we are tied to GAS. The reason renewables are now so cheap is the cost of domestic battery storage has fallen dramatically enabling time shifting from an always on resource. Not only that they are zero VAT rated. It is in the best interest of the Customer, the Supplier, the Generators, The Grid and the government to both insulate homes and time shit electricity usage.

@MinkieWinkle batteries aren't expensive for what they do. A mass storage grid node will repay it's capital cost within a year. Your really out of date maybe 5 years ago you might have had a point but capital costs for renewables keeps coming down while other energy sources keep rising. As for nuclear forget it Hinckley C is still not commissioned is further delayed and build costs are now up to 40+ billion It's estimated that it would only cost 30 billion to remove standby gas with battery storage saving 30 billion a year

@MinkieWinkle I agree there is still too much red tape but even without it Hinkley would cost a small fortune to build. These are quotes from last year since then battery prices have fallen especially by Tesla's competitors. The second quote shows why battery storage saves so much money compared to standby gas The Astonishing Economics of the Tesla Megapack By adding about 300 MW of storage, ERCOT will generate approximately $1 billion in savings in 2025. This is from a one time purchase of Megapacks for $750 million. These savings will also happen each additional year after 2025 - they are recurring! National Grid paid some of the highest prices this winter for gas-generated power on Tuesday night as it scrambled to keep the lights on during one of the coldest weeks of the year. Data from the electricity system’s administrator, Elexon, showed the Coryton power station in Essex had bids accepted to produce power at £1,950 per megawatt hour (MWh) on Tuesday evening. The sums are well above average prices of between £200 and £400 per megawatt hour, although they remain below those paid on 12 December, when National Grid paid £27m in a single day to get power stations to crank up supply. In December, Rye House power station in Hertfordshire received a record £6,000 a MWh.

he knows zero about our energy market Bills are high because were tied to Natural Gas so why is he doubling down on stup1d?

@jamesleeson6970 Anyone can answer a question if they just make stuff up, people have pointed out to him he is wrong on multiple occasions but apparently facts don't matter
1
@jamesleeson6970 he claims you can order the navy to dump refugees in France, Boris tried it they told him to get stuffed as it was an illeagal order under maritime law. Leaving the echr has no bearing on being able to dump on asylum seekers Our energy is expensive because we're tied to Gas and get grid standby load from on demand gas power stations - he wants to ban battery mass storage which will save a small fortune. Etc As I said anyone can answer questions if they make stuff up then get people to believe the bs thier spouting
