Comments by "Greg Greg" (@SlowhandGreg) on "Labour MP James Murray defends Keir Starmer's proposal to extend the vote to some EU citizens" video.
usual Tory tears OMG how will we cope quote Keir Starmer was quick to stress that the party has no “settled policy” during a phone-in on LBC radio this morning, but set out the case for widening the franchise to both groups. Starmer noted that EU nationals are already permitted to take part in local elections. “If someone has been here say ten, 20, 30 years, contributing to this economy, part of our community, they ought to be able to vote”. Starmer said EU citizens he had spoken to on the doorstep made that point. “That feels wrong, and something ought to be done about it.” On votes at 16 and 17, Starmer argued it was not such an “outlandish idea” given that it is already permitted in Wales and Scotland.

You could say the same at the over 60's who watch daytime TV and read the Daily mail

why wouldn't you vote for it, the current Cons have stopped ex pats voting we have people here that have contribute way more in taxes to this country than you have but they aren't allowed representation on how those taxes are spent? No Taxation without representation that should be the moto of any democracy

@oldshiny3012 yea right on who doesn't want higher taxes and lower standard of living for yourself and lower taxes for the elite millionaire/ billionaire class I mean a vote for Labour who would stop all that trickle down nonsense and invest in social and physical infrastructure increasing the country's wealth and improving public services etc.
