@jgreen9361 I'll tell you why house prices are spiralling and yes low mortgage rates have a small effect but the biggest driver is quantative easing and increasing the money supply, this has all spiraled up to the 1% who are investing it in fixed assets. Last year was a record year for the increase in billionaire wealth, if you want to correct the economy then introduce a wealth tax as recommended by the IMF

@markdowns9607 everything privatised is more expensive, private companies exist to make a profit and to pay shareholders and the executives as much as possible The notion that the private sector can do things better and cheaper is farcical

If you invest in your population then economically the standards will rise you can see this clearly in the data The Blair economy had a rise of +25% to average wages (there's a load of things I didn't like about the Blair government but you can't knock their handling of the wider economy) Cameron / May had a rise of -3% to average wages a feat not seen since the Napolionic war Jonson is scheduled to bust that negative 3% in just 3 years The Conservative pursuit of supply side and trickle down economics is going to kill wage growth for decades but hey that's what Tories do the rich get richer fk everyone else

@patdbean what 13 years of them give me a break Where bottom of the G7 in predicted growth for 2022, the US and French economy have completely recovered from covid while we have the highest taxes in living memory The current sorry economic state is the result of supply side economic policy introduced by Osborne in 2010 and now being peddled by Sunak in 2022 and what's worse is the likes of Farage and Tice pedal the same economic nonsense that's driven us into what will now be a decade of stagflation. The lot of them promise low tax low regulatory economic policy which if they do that will need propping up with huge amounts of public debt, you can see the effects of this during the covid crisis, low taxation at the top and business end over 10 years hadn't reduced the deficit enough The Bank of England had to pump large sums into the economy and at its worst the economy shrank by 11% Last time I looked it had gained back +9 but it's about to shrink again due to Sunaks budget for the wealthy which didn't touch unearned income or high earners and in fact gave bankers a 2 billion cut

@patdbean they could increase it and lower the age from 23 to 18 Every penny pumped into the bottom end of the economy is spent, the range you pay tax is crazy as well the allowance is 12750 the minimum living wage is calculated at something like 20800 I went to university when it was free in fact I got a bursary for coming from a a relatively poor family kids these days are being hit with 10s of thousands of pounds of debt

@patdbean 300,000 only Increases the population by 50,000 if that we have birth rate of 1.6 Right wing political parties push globalisation and don't care if child labour in Africa can make it cheaper then they will import it undercutting local industry That's why there importing cheaper workers from india
1
@patdbean immigration from the EU went up because we had the jobs that needed people and successive governments thought an expanding economy was the way to go. The current lot will say one thing then ddo another through the back door. By the way I'm . not against curbing uncontrolled immigration my main point is we need + 250k for a net stable population. We also need a more nuanced conversion on the topic

Why the right wing in politics just look after the very rich. They say one thing to get your vote backed by corporate media then fk you over behind your back Look at Johnson a right wing populist like Farage promised to level up the country and control immigration instead Sunak's budget is for the Rich screws over graduates more than any other group and while they import skills from India on lower wages depressing wages down the chain further. Tice, Sunak and Farage all pedal low tax low regulatory supply side economics as did Cameron which has resulted in economic stagnation and negative wage growth and more right wing will see more stagflation
1
@LandRover300 since when we've had hard right wing economic policies for 12 years Low tax for the rich and businesses high tax for the workers running down physical and social infrastructure to get us to the current shyte state

What did you think would happen? Nige has tub thumped the Aus like point system a lot as great and the solution to replace EU workers What the stupid numpty didn't realise was that it would have zero effect on net migration and result in importing workers into middle and higher incomes depressing middle class wages which has a knock on effect of depressing wages down the social chain.
1
@clark kent this piece is designed to make you outraged it presents a tub thumping solution which is completely unworkable and unobtainable while rolling you up about immigrants I'm a Technical Analyst when all the migration rhetoric started getting heated before the referendum I did a deep dive into the topic, historical, social and economic So here's a few facts which people like Nige don't want to talk about The UK birth rate is 1.6 it needs to be 2.1 to maintain the current population I did a quick calculation we need about + 250k to remain stable An EU migrant pays approx 80,000 more in tax than someone born in the UK to the exchequer and a non EU migrant 28,000 Without a stable population the tax burden on workers will steadily increase to cover the shortfall of an aging shrinking population What we need is an adult conversation about where we get the 250k what skills we require no migration at all isn't an option and then another adult conversation about do we want to expand our economy if so is there a case for more migrants. The Tories saying one thing then doing another isn't a surprise big business will be pressuring them and they think they can get away with throwing some red meat into the debate to distract with Rwanda

@muckle8 that's because a large chunk of public opinion is media driven take this piece for example its designed to make you outraged it presents a tub thumping solution which is completely unworkable and unobtainable while rolling you up about immigrants I'm a Technical Analyst when all the migration rhetoric started getting heated before the referendum I did a deep dive into the topic, historical, social and economic So here's a few facts which people like Nige don't want to talk about The UK birth rate is 1.6 it needs to be 2.1 to maintain the current population I did a quick calculation we need about + 250k to remain stable An EU migrant pays approx 80,000 more in tax than someone born in the UK to the exchequer and a non EU migrant 28,000 Without a stable population the tax burden on workers will steadily increase to cover the shortfall of an aging shrinking population What we need is an adult conversation about where we get the 250k what skills we require from non at all isn't an option and then another adult conversation about do we want to expand our economy if so is there a case for more migrants. I vote Lib Dem always been centre am more center left as I get older

@crawford1083 I'd agree with you on pr but why Reform the would implement the same supply side trickle down economic policies that Sunak is doing and has led to what will be a decade of stagflation?
1
@crawford1083 what does that word salad even mean?
1
@crawford1083 I raise the question because woke as used is meaningless. Back years ago the right had a war on what they call political correctness. WOKE itself just means don't be a racist xenophobic sexist homophobic A hole? Dredging up grievences and giving them a label isn't much of a reason to be politically affiliated. I'd have thought your income housing education climate change would feature?

@garyc7464 what monetary policy do they have that would improve my finances? Do they have a policy of moving away from fossil? What's their policy on public transport infrastructure?
