@Jezza_One Scotland 92% renewable Norway 93% renewable Danemark 60% renewable not seen any reports on any of those countries having wide ranging power cuts? Strange maybe it's a conspiracy? What Danemark and Norway have in common is 2% inflation fancy that is it a coincidence there not getting fleeced on gas prices ?

the question is why don't you want cheaper energy? The true cost of fossil is in the hundreds of billions, energy from renewables are a fraction of the cost of our current system Everyone in the UK is paying 170 Billion in excess profits to the UK energy sector which is tied to the price of gas and 100+ billion in tax subsidies will be given to the fossil sector over the next few years. Tying ourselves to gas generation is insane

@Jezza_One fracking is unviable without massive government subsidies and wouldn't reduce costs due to its expense. It also use 10 million gallons of water per well and has to move site every 3 years and the water is mixed with toxic chemicals leaving a pollution hazard to the water table. It cost 9 billion in infrastructure costs to build Dogger Bank wind farm which can produce 5% of uk domestic electricity needs is on time to come on stream this year. Hinkley C cost 33 billion + 30 Billion in subsidies over 35 years and produces 5% of UK domestic electricity and the energy it produces will cost x4 that of dogger bank and its 2 years late already. The Tories won't invest in Tidal because its regional and would be controlled by local authorities such as the swansea bay scheme boosting regional growth and doesn't have enough kickback to the big players

@stoicsceptic8420 The right want to keep the status quo there more than happy to screw the country for billions in excess profits. Renewable energy is cheaper there's no reason bar disinformation for not switching

@Jezza_One why would you use coal at x 3 times thee cost? Even TEXAS The home of oil deploy more wind than us you want obviously don't want cheaper bills

@saltburner2 we have only 17% wind you need 40% base load giving you a large margin to expand current production, Danemark run at 40% Cost of Hinkley C is currently 33 billion + 30 billion over 35 years in subsidies + price tied to inflation. To build an equivalent tidal system its been estimated to have a capital cost of 50 billion once built its generation costs are maintenance + returning your 50 billion in capital outlay normally you could calculate at 35 years but Dam's last for decades which is the nearest comparison so your looking at 50 years minimum This is a one off project cost based on Swansea bay I could spreadsheet the numbers but the Nuclear will cost more by how much is hard to tell because the tidal system once built will get even cheaper with inflation built in and will last at least 15 years longer, the hoover dam was built in 1931 and its still generating today.
