@James_36 the uk economy is on life support Back in 2010 debt to gdp was 62% its gone up year on year and is now 100% we borrowed 130 billion last year and core inflation is sticky BOE rate is unlikely to fall in the near future Energy prices have also trebled and the number of bancrupcies just keeps going up Reuters 16 Jun 2023 — Company insolvencies in England and Wales last month jumped 40% year on year to the highest level since monthly records began in January The £ has lost 70% against the € And economic growth has flattened since 2010, current average disposable income is back to 2006 levels

@Noel-ji8nm it's a shame Corbyn never lived up to that saying The man who handed the Tories an 80 seat majority on a plate, a man who had never implemented a policy in his life, never had to confront real life politics just lived in his elite socialist bubble. No better than Whako Truss on the right or Fartages fake Populism

Why wouldn't you want labour?

@iceshakle not very humorous Blair gave us the best decade of prosperity the country has had in modern times +25% wage growth, real economic growth and well funded services Brown patched up the fallout from the banking crisis leaving 62% debt to gdp ratio and gdp per capita @50,000 You can have as many opinions you like on new labour period but those are the economic facts Osborne went on a personal crusade to shrink the state in doing so he shrank the economy suppressed public sector pay refused with Cameron to regulate the GIG economy leading to near 1 million workers pouring in on low paid zero hour contracts. And it's all been downhill since then the Tories have Never balanced the books debt to gdp ratio is 100% we borrowed 130 billion last year interest rates are eye-watering high and gdp per capita is 45,000 with people now on average worse off than they were in 2008. At this stage I'd settle for back to 2010 and a bit of a recovery rather than the economic doom loop were in

If your going down this road then it would be wise to know what is possible and what is just more BS would it not? For example the promises on migration are pretty empty, legal migration is high because of economic policy its not something you can switch on and off while illegal is wrapped up in international law @TJ-kw8ct
1
@iceshakle why are you so afraid of the economic facts? If you don't like the New Labour years for Idealogical reasons then fine there's lots of ammunition. We have decades of data showing the economic failures and fallout of Thatcherism made even worse by Austerity to the point its stagnated the economy for 13 years.
1
@James_36 what sort of damage? Repair the economic train wreck left by the Tories? 13 years of complete and utter incompetence you'd have to go back to the Napolionic war era for comparison?
1
@James_36 the US currency is the world currency everything is quoted in Dollars also its economy has and is growing In 2010 GDP per capita (approx) US 50,000 UK 50,000 2023 UK 45,000 US 72,000 Quote Is the UK economy worse now than in 2008? Prior to the 2008 global financial crisis, the UK had been a strong performer among the Group of Seven countries. But this momentum was lost in the middle of the last decade. By 2022, real business investment was still slightly lower than in 2016—in contrast to the 14 percent increase among other G7 economies.11 Jul 2023 We also have zero plan to service the debt or grow the economy so can't expand borrowing ex- the Truss debacle
1
@James_36 REFORM aren't both Jermy Hunt and Rachel Reeve where to the recent presentation by the Resolution Foundation who presented a paper called ending stagnation authored by leading economists, Tice, Farage where nowhere to be seen Not that Hunt is going to do anything about it because the proposals are interventionist
1
@111111877 so one is spending 1/2 a billion on Rwanda the other will save 3 billion by processing the refugees One has instigated 20 billion in trickle down tax breaks the other proposes debt forgiveness for NHS nurses to cut the churn and cost of agency staff There are hundreds of differences you just don't want to look and sit in your blinkered media narrative bubble
1
@111111877 there are hundreds of differences if you care to look if your going to walk around with blinkers and spout a media narrative like a nodding dog then that's your problem
1
@SmartCookie2022 we don't have the skills in the public sector since the Thatcher asset stripping years to manage public projects and we don't have the borrowing capability since 2010 debt to GDP was 62% its now 100% plus Truss killed off the ability for borrowing expansion and Hunt/Sunak borrowed 130 billion last year using part of it on magical tricle down tax cuts that are driving gilt yields South. On PPP it was stupid of Brown to do it because interest rates were low now we have no choice if you want investment
1
@rfurdaylee trickle down tax cuts Last year my tax went up by +£400 that was used partly to fund a tax break for millionaire pensioners of £40,000 per annum That money out of my pocket went straight out of the working economy into a rich basts asset pot because I would have spent it and as a pensioner I do not want to subsidie millionaires
1
@rfurdaylee they get the door slammed in thier faces round our way no one wants fracking or deregulation with more sewage in our river
1
@dave4803 why we've seen a catastrophic failure of right wing economics over the last decade and a half The worst economy since the Napolionic war, pre dates Labour's formation
1
@111111877 I studied Economics we've had Hard Right Thatcherite supply side trickle down economic policy for all 13 years + Austerity. Just because Cameron was socially Liberal didn't stop him wrecking the economy with Extreme Thatcherism
1
@dave4803 all major capitals across Europe and the US are cosmopolitan its where thier wealth is derived from If you want better social housing and less knife crime you need funding from central government the Tories defunded the justice system, youth services and asset stripped Council housing stock Short term measures with long term consequences
