The taxes are high because of a decade and a half of Conservative Thatcherism and Brex1t, that answer applies to migration as well.

From Osborne to H unt successive Tory Chancellors have made the wrong call at every opportunity Buildings are literally falling down around us Cancelling a landmark infrastructure project to then divert the money to fill potholes in London just about sums up The Tories tenure

@nickryder9669 I'm talking Macro economics the Tax base was 33% for a couple of decades till 2019. How that is divid up is down to each Party It has now risen to 37%, there's plenty of room for Labour to not tax working people and raise money there are as you say 101 loopholes that need closing and we failed to collect 42 billion of tax owed last year

@nickryder9669 I'm aware of that but they did some pretty dumb things as well like not sorting out housing and signing up to PFI and not clamping down of tax loopholes. Brown's lack of judgement lead to more deregulation and made the banking crisis worse than it should have been. Blair didn't sort out Zero Hour he was talked out of it structural issues that came back to bite them in 2010 letting the Tories in. The comparison is relative though Labour were always a million times better than the Tories it's just a shame we've had to endure 14 years of this cr*p for them to get their act together.

@Dubya-i3v why would anyone vote for a Party that were that clueless they put Liz Truss in charge, Sunak is barely credible either he doesn't have a clue on the economy all you'd get is another 5 years of Stagflation
