Lower taxes never equates to lower taxes for the middle / lower class They lower your headline rate then put the burden on purchase taxes you actually pay more as a portion of your income in tax the lower down the economic scale you are. With tax the rich are forever on about tax fairness but its a straight lie someone at the bottom on minimum wage pays a huge proportion of their income + capital in tax the further you go up the scale the less you pay as a proportion so reducing the headline rate has a disproportionate affect on the overall tax take.

@johnh1872 all of what you've just said is mostly rubbish. I've a net worth including all assets of around 2 Mill I pay very little tax don't have an accountant and what I do pay is at 20%. Sunak paid 20% on the bulk of his income via CGT all legal. Middle class and lower class are subsidising this and have been on an increasing scale since 2010. What's worse is there now making you poorer on an industrial scale last year the top 100 ceo got 22.5% pay rise the energy sector will make 170 billion in excess profits. The tax system is rigged for the rich to get rich

@entropy5431 Its 38% & that includes the NHS /Schools and Pensions You also have infrastructure transport police army. The right wings version of tax cuts is tax cuts for the rich They will never cut taxes for the low /middle paid it always has a disproportionately bad affect at the bottom

@robbeales5516 You pay more in Tax under a regressive system with front loading on purchase taxes such as VAT at 20% property taxes than you would do with Progressive taxation which is income /asset based

@rogerwoodhouse7945 You don't get it the Cons are just the arms of the Millionaire/Billionaire class The think tanks spouting low tax connected to the government are Lobby groups including the Fossil industry. Back in 2019 Renewables became the cheapest energy source on the grid but we have the Fossil lobby to thank for slowing to a crawl adoption and got a 6 billion tax break in the last budget. Debt to GDP in 2010 was 62% it was 92% in 2019 and just under 100% now the Tories are an economic disaster for the Low and middle class
