Yea I mean who wants cheap renewable energy c'mon how will the fossil baron's live a lifestyle of opulent luxury. Just think of their shareholders as well

Net zero = capital expenditure now V high running cost Insulate a school building to A+ standard and its savings on its heating and electric bill cover the capital outlay within a few years Not doing it is a false economy

no its not nearly all of it is capital expenditure V high running cost Insulate a school building to A+ standard and its heating and electric bill cover the capital outlay within a few years, add some solar panels to the roofs and the bulk of its electric is generated reducing running costs further.

Its about domestic economic strategy renewable energy is cheaper which is why everyone is suddenly interested whoever gets there 1st has a huge advantage

@equaltoreality8028 renewable hasn't been subsidised for years they reached price parity with gas in 2019 You could build 4 offshore wind farms that produced the equivalent of Hinckley C for less money Even tidal is cheaper than nuclear now the answer is tidal Wiind solar and storage

So Hinkley C is contracted to last 35 Years lets give it + 5 its costs so far are 33 billion production costs 35 billion in subsidies over 35 years Guaranteed price currently of around 110p per kilowatt hour. Dogger bank Offshore is 42p and costs 9 Billion Then there's the build time Dogger bank 1st phase started in 2020 and will come online in 2024 Hinkley C 2017 commissioning now expected 2028 Then there's Tidal a similar capacity to Hinkley will cost about 50 billion but you could phase it same as Dogger Bank lasts 50-100 years Then we have storage A large Tesla Megapack for load balancing quote Europe’s biggest’ battery in East Yorkshire opens The project has the capacity to store enough energy to power around 300,000 homes in Yorkshire for two hours (costs 750,000 million) endquote a similar project in California saves 1 billion a years and as EV penetration becomes more prevalent V2G can and will fill in load gaps you can run a home for 2 days on a Tesla battery probably more if you had solar. I admire your enthusiasm for Nuclear but its fkin expensive compared to current alternatives. And you need only 40% Base load we have 15% nuclear + between 5-7% with Hinkley so around 20% There was talk of small modular reactors from Rolls Royce which looks more viable the the mega projects
