@markwelch3564 for CGT tax purposes she didn't need to live there just claim it's her primary residence. As she was on PAYE there is no requirement to make a non tax declaration so there is no paper trail. You can also offset home improvements against CGT this allows landlords to maintain property without having to pay tax on it. The property was however never rented out. So a lot of Tory noise about nothing

@markwelch3564 Why would someone on PAYE think they needed to get involved with a tax accountant
5
@markwelch3564 since when do estate agents or solicitors give tax advice for one its illegal ?
3
@chatham43 Off the hook for what exactly? You don't have to live at the address to not pay CGT Electoral roll address isn't the same as primary address for HMRC purposes The daily mail is just throwing mud at the wall to see if it can confuse you enough to think there was something wrong
3
@markwelch3564 again cgt doesn't apply if its your primary residence, you do not have to live there

@Diana-007 the Tories have pumped billions into right to buy completely distorting the housing market, from 2010 to present housing inflation is 66% alone It has become the only way low / medium income earners can get a home It is robbing councils of around 40 billion in funds
1
@Diana-007 the Cons have flogged off around 2 million council homes pumping over 100 billion into subsidies over the years creating uncontrolled property inflation while asset stripping around 200 billion in today's money from council assets.
1
@markwelch3564 In the context of money, giving “Advice” is a regulated activity. Only firms that are regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) can offer this I sold my mother's house recently and got zero financial and tax advice on inheritance or cgt tax, neither the solicitors or estate agents were registered with the FCA why would they want the burden
1
@carlitor4173 she hasn't lied as far as I can see she is not liable for CGT and The Cons have pumped over 100 billion into the housing market inflating prices to the point that a working single parent's only hope of having a permanent roof over there head is to use the same scheme that is destroying council budgets and causing out of control housing inflation.

There not investigating the CGT stuff that's froth and nonsense
1
@karlhinze statute of limitations on this is 4 years, HMRC can only go back 20 if its a deliberate pattern of behaviour, even then you don't have to live somewhere for it to be your primary residence for CGT purposes and Ange would have been on PAYE so there's no paper trail
1
@karlhinze The normal time limit for making assessments is four years following the end of the tax year. This is termed a 'discovery' assessment. The time limit for making an assessment on a person in a case involving a loss of income tax brought about 'carelessly' by that person is six years following the end of the tax year. The 20 year limit is for exceptional cases of knowingly repeated tax fraud
1
@eljay5746 The information we have is that for tax purposes the property was designated her primary residence so CGT doesn't apply (you don't have to live there). Being on PAYE there is no declaration or paper trail.

@missaj5623 The Conservatives have inflated the property market by pumping billions into right to buy to the point anyone on low medium income it is now the only way of ever owning your own home. Cameron pumped billions into the scheme and since 2010 house prices have risen by 66% while real wages average have fallen by -7%
