The best suggestion on this is to move to a fairer property tax so that 8 million mansion in Mayfair attracts an appropriate tax rate

Totally agree there's a paper on it somewhere fleshing out a complete policy

Starmer has had to tack to the centre and over correct because you elected a fantasy populist and wasted a decade The Tories are about to do exactly the same but to the right
3
what's the point on a virtue signalling when you have no power, all UK parties support the 2 state solution
3
PAYE is fine you need to look at a property tax
3
Tax property + double on 2nd homes

@chrisj9700 If you live in a 1 million £ house you can afford to pay tax on it. We could set up a student loan type system they can borrow from if there cash poor and the money is taken from the estate. This also encourages pensioners who's kids have left home to downsize freeing up multi-bedroom properties onto the market.

@jimmyguitar9873 The money that doesn't go offshore gets locked up in assets such as houses in Mayfair, stocks Art etc

@carolewynn9407 how dare they selfishly live in a 5 bedroom property and freeload off the system that's enabled them to accumulate so much property wealth. No one's forcing them out if there prepared to pay the tax. Successive governments have pumped 100's of billions into enabling people to buy property its time to pay the ferryman.

He's socially centre and fiscally Centre Left as far as I can make out

from a party that's claiming to be more Tory than the Tories bit rich

I think so the missions are based on Mariana Mazzucato's work Mission Economy, as far as I'm aware she will be an adviser. The mission approach is cross departmental I'm assuming Sue Gray was brought in to formulate how it would work

@chrisj9700 No they won't its been calculated that a property tax of 0.5% will only increase tax on 10% the other 90% will either pay the same or less. Currently a detached property in Burnley will pay 1.5% of its value in council tax.
1
@chrisj9700 If 90% will see no change then how is the 10% cash strapped? The reason its needed is the Government have pumped over the last few years near on 700 billion into the economy House price inflation is way over standard inflation due to government policies and on top of that various housing initiatives like right to buy have pumped over another 100 billion into the housing market over the years. People on PAYE are taxed enough its time to unlock some wealth and pay back what has been gifted them by tax breaks and government incentives over 1/2 a decade of Thatcherism so we can do something for younger people in the economy.

The country as a whole is socially centre right and fiscally centre left, there's no buy in to sweeping social change, the Tories can get away with imposing all sorts on us with 36% of the vote Labour can not

@chrisj9700 The issue with the tax system isn't tax on income its tax on wealth generated from wealth. Ex Sunak paid 22p on the £ on 4 million in income for which he did nothing but sit back and watch his portfolio go up
