  3.  @johnrussell3961  government debt has a number of main components. Its size relative to your economy (% debt to gdp) What that debt is invested in + Your ability to service that debt. The issue is Austerity has shrunk/stagnated the economy so your debt to gdp has risen and the debt itself was used on trickle down tax cuts NOT infrastructure. The easiest way of lowering the ratio is tackle the energy, housing and transport crisis but to do that you need to invest in infrastructure. What costs more than an infrastructure project with escalating costs? Cancelling an infrastructure project with escalating costs Reason it needs doing in some firm anyway
