I'm a pensioner, we own our home again prime Tory demographic but my son will never prosper in a Conservative economy he's got 4 A levels 2 diploma's and 4 years experience and is on +40p above minimum wage. At 25 there's no chance of him leaving home other than via the bank of mum and dad With fiscal drag and degraded NHS they've really taken the pensioner vote for granted

4 out of every 10 people retiring at 66 will do so into poverty

@jasonhughes638 that figure is based on property, a lot of pensioners are asset rich cash poor And 20% live in poverty that figure is rising by the day as people enter retirement and get dragged down by high food and fuel inflation. I'm a pensioner but have never voted Tory I know what there like and it's been estimated by economists that 40% of that property value is down to government subsidies and policies.

@jasonhughes638 since 2010 house prices have risen by 66% and average wages by -7% The 1st thing labour needs to do is change the planning system and build like it was post war, the value of my property is irrelevant to me its where I have lived since 1985

And an increase in tax due to fiscal drag of £550 + Pensioners are affected more by food and energy inflation as the average pension income is 18,000 with 4 out of 10 reaching 66 and retiring into poverty

@allip4226 I've lived where I am since 1985 and aren't going anywhere but agree I should pay for that decision. 2 million houses have been flogged off on the cheap and not replaced this will increasingly affect pensioners thers around 1 million people over 55 currently renting

@goych Thatcher and the Tories created the housing bubble and the Tory voting pensioner is mostly working class bribed by the Cons who asset stripped the country to do it. I'm under no illusion that the tax system benifts me bigly by taxing work over wealth, I'm all for a fair property tax but there is an ever increasing group of pensioners who are slipping into poverty
1
@goych I'm fully in favour of a property tax to replace council tax but don't think anyone would dare to be so radical
1
@goych since when? House prices have risen 66% since 2010 wages have fallen by -7% The Tories have deliberately created low wage generation rent

2 million live in poverty and 4 out of 10 reaching pension age will be joining them.
