  11. I have a solar battery system and am with octopus, before it was installed I paid 24p per unit for electricity now I pay half that if I need energy. If I had an EV I could get a 7p rate overnight.

Companies I've worked for have tried outsourcing IT work the results are mixed from mildly inefficient to a complete disaster Any team that works for a number of years and gains collective experience is near impossible to replace by treating it as an accounting problem. I'd have thought that the work is no longer necessary or has drastically changed otherwise the project will go backwards and don't think of Elon as this business God that never makes mistakes or he wouldn't have got involved with Twitter

California are leaders in domestic solar as well if you have a compatible EV you can use it to time shift energy usage Millions of batteries connected to the grid at any one time reduces by a huge margin the amount of peaker plants you need or large single use battery storage facilities I had a quick look the state are offering incentives for solar installation + battery storage as well as very high insulation regs

The market wants EV's and people buying at this price point are not going to want an ICE vehicle if there's a EV alternative, the Ford marketing has already stuck the knife into gas sales coupled with pump prices the flexibility of using the power outlets and the promise of V2G the reaction will be to either go to another manufacturer or keep your money in your pocket till an alternative becomes available

People leave for lots of reasons I believe the main one is cost of housing in California if you work in IT such as me since Covid you don't need to be in the office plenty people I know have relocated out of the city and sometimes state where they work. The figure for California is 1/2 a million by the way. People in my socio-economic bracket take their liberal polotics with them as well and want decent healthcare, schools and regulations against polution + net zero and the move away from fossil fuel The counties in the US that vote Democrat account for 70% of US GDP

  19. Just been pricing one up I can get a 2 year old estate 250+ range for £14,000 and due to ultra low electricity overnight rates save £2000 a year in petrol alone. Event horizon looks like it was reached a couple of years ago and was masked by global trade problems

  20.  @johnryan8645  they've a mega pack factory either built or being built Arizona I think, the energy market is transitioning at the moment the solar roof has had issues and there's been a shortage of powerwalls you can now only get one with a solar install. Worldwide there's a battery shortage. Like you I'm a long term investor but my Tesla stock is part of a tech equity fund.

I'm in the UK we had 2 days of winter sun where I was got grey in the afternoon but that doesn't matter to me There's always wind due to us being an Island, Modern turbines turn at as low speed as 8mph I have a solar battery install it's undersized for my needs due to only being able to use one side of the roof but it still provides 75% of my energy over 12 months You can run a house on an EV battery for a week if your careful so this we will always need fossil is not true especially with battery prices falling so quickly your talking 5 years.

  27. @JonathanMorris777  my savings are down to time shifting + having domestic battery storage I have solar as well. Octopus offer 7p for overnight ev charging, my laundry and dishwasher are already time shifted to overnight in winter an EV will save me 2k a year on petrol. V2G looks interesting but car batteries aren't the same as the domestic ones currently they don't do as many cycles.

Cost of domestic installations have plummeted (UK) In October I purchased a solar battery system with 2 GivEnergy 5.2 kwh batteries and they cost 1550 each Octopus my provider will give me an overnight rate of 13p a FIT tariff of 15p instead of what I was paying (25p standard) You can also hand over control of charging to Octopus who have what is called intelligent flux, dectralised mesh networking to stabalise the grid at a local level

The energy market in the UK works on forward contract prices, new renewable energy deployment on the grid has attracted the lowest forward contract price since 2020 before the energy crisis. And There are near 85 billion in long term oil and gas subsidies, were currently paying Shell and BP to extract fossil then screw us over on price selling it back to us. I have a home solar / battery system it will pay for itself in 6 years and save me £44,000 over its life (assuming zero inflation) The event horizon for renewable is long gone your way out of date

  47. I wouldn't get too hung up on the stock price it can drop tomorrow by a large margin as well as go up, Tesla has underlying good numbers for cars but it's Grid stuff is bubbling under. We've seen speculation like this before you'd rather see long haul investors rather than bandwagon but that's markets for you.

Grid capacity shouldn't be an issue load balancing and management are the key Smart meters and V2G will make peaker gas plants a thing of the past and wind capacity is set to soar as is the introduction of tidal plus decentralised production with domestic solar and wind getting cheaper as well as moves in house efficency and insulation.A modern house or even a retrofitted older house can be designed to use 80% less energy to heat and cool it
