A lot of people are opting to lease Given the huge saving in petrol cost a small car virtually pays for itself If your leasing you don't care what year its registered or what the depreciation will be
1
@briangasser973 those with battery systems still had power. You can also run a house off an EV for a number of days if you have the tech installed.
1
@mikafiltenborg2291 I'd heard 2022 for initial production runs but scale wise it would take a number of years to refine and build meanwhile in Europe the urban suburban market should be 60% electric in that time. There's the huge problem of long haul though the current tech isn't really suited too
1
@GruffSillyGoat mass storage at grid scale pays for itself within a year, gas peak costs are really high Mass storage is cheap these days, fully automated nd virtually maintenance free.
1
@youtubeshadowbannedmylasta2629 12 year warranty on mine By then the cost will have gone through the floor
1
@youtubeshadowbannedmylasta2629 what subsidies?
1
@youtubeshadowbannedmylasta2629 I don't get what your point is? Investment brings returns, this goes into infrastructure which we need to update the grid to enable a more distributed network. Most of it needs building and switching to mass storage no matter the energy source. Total worldwide subbisidies for fossil fuels totaled 7 trillion in 2022 and we see no payback there just tax breaks with zero return to the nation state and increased profits for multinational companies Hinkley C when it ever gets commissioned has 80 billion in subsidies built into its contract over 35 years.

@AbdulEssa-kp4vf my setup came with a battery 10 panels 4.2 kw 1 x 5.2 battery + inverter installed for 7k estimated payback 6 years estimated savings £44,000 over 25 years. As well as grid storage make it easier for domestic storage
1
@AbdulEssa-kp4vf wind is always on as is Nuclear Our grid is sized for peak load The way it's going domestic and grid scale batteries will time shift demand.
1
The market wants the trucks NOW not 3 years down the line, the speed of change has to accelerate or Ford will die. Rivian have a truck and they have a final mile delivery van deal with Amazon, it's basically a race at this point JUST LOOK AT THE PRICE OF GAS
1
@MbeyaIsHome batteries are way cheaper option the price fell by 50% in last 18 months and bloomberg are estimating that prices will fall another 50% in 2 years and also increase in capacity
1
Battery prices have been falling rapidly just got some with a new solar install. 3 years ago capital repayment was 15 years now it will be under 6.
1
It's about the tax cuts which added 3.5 trillion to debt Trump has pt9mised to reauthorise them
1
Average home uses 8 kwh per day I have 10.4 plus a solar diverter to heat water, the point of the batteries are to open up off peak tariffs and time shift usage.
1
@drgyt2469 id suggest you spend some money upgrading your insulation. Also In the UK you only need enough storage to cover between 4-7pm As it is my appliances are set to run overnight in the winter using the off peak rate, I also charge up the battery given its winter. People with heat pumps in the UK pre heat and avoid peak time consumption most systems are wet and use a tank The point isn't to be off grid it's to flatten and fatten the demand curve enabling you to get the cheapest rate
1
@drgyt2469 I've just finished renovation on a 1935 house + extension doubling the ground floor area, it has primary and secondary insulation everywhere I could fit it. The heating came on in October sporadically and will start going off again end of March. The house gets most of its heat from the double glazing which only allows heat in at lower angles as in 1st thing on a morning or during winter sun Secondary insulation isn't expensive it's just a fag to do to an older property, I've primarily used a product called multifoil
1
Nuclear is eye wateringly expensive in the UK it is going to cost 70 billion including subsidies over 35 years for Hinkley C to provide around 6% domestic demand at a guaranteed price of x4 the price of Onshore wind. A similar sized offshore wind farm is coming onstream this year costing 9 billion and the electricity price is x3.5 cheaper than Hinckley's will be with the spare 60 billion you could buy that 6% of homes a Tesla which would run their home for 3 days on a full charge or a complete solar install + battery backup @colinmacdonald5732

The US media is in denial as are a section of the US political class who are in the pockets of the fossil industry. With gas prices spiking again consumers are talking with their wallets
1
Mine are near zero with a solar battery system my provider gives me low cost top up overnight if I need it.
1
Anyone not a fascist is called left leaning these days @fredkite9330
1
@windsolarupnorth7084 were at the bottom off the S curve with net zero and EV's In the last 10 years the cost of producing energy from renewables has dropped by 95% becoming on par with gas generation in 2019. It's predicted that battery prices will double in capacity& halve in cost over the next few years. I used to work in the energy sector having EV'S plugged into a meshed grid will save energy suppliers billions
1
Electricity generated from Nuclear is already between 3 & 4 times the cost of renewables. its a Japan only solution at best @Species-lj8wh
