I have a solar battery system and am with octopus, before it was installed I paid 24p per unit for electricity now I pay half that if I need energy. If I had an EV I could get a 7p rate overnight.

@JonathanMorris777 400? I save that + just time shifting using the batteries and off peak without the solar. Your figures seem a little low

@JonathanMorris777 my savings are down to time shifting + having domestic battery storage I have solar as well. Octopus offer 7p for overnight ev charging, my laundry and dishwasher are already time shifted to overnight in winter an EV will save me 2k a year on petrol. V2G looks interesting but car batteries aren't the same as the domestic ones currently they don't do as many cycles.

The grid is designed for peak load on a duck curve from 4-7pm. I get paid by the utility company who manages the battery storage I have through an active tariff.

@youtubeshadowbannedmylasta2629 Again what subsidies are you talking about? The energy market in the UK works on forward contract prices, new renewable energy deployment on the grid has attracted the lowest forward contract price since 2020 before the energy crisis. And There are near 85 billion in long term oil and gas subsidies, were currently paying Shell and BP to extract fossil then screw us over on price selling it back to us. I have a home solar / battery system it will pay for itself in 6 years and save me £44,000 over its life (assuming zero inflation) The event horizon for renewable is long gone your way out of date

@briangasser973 those with battery systems still had power. You can also run a house off an EV for a number of days if you have the tech installed.

@GruffSillyGoat mass storage at grid scale pays for itself within a year, gas peak costs are really high Mass storage is cheap these days, fully automated nd virtually maintenance free.

@youtubeshadowbannedmylasta2629 12 year warranty on mine By then the cost will have gone through the floor

@youtubeshadowbannedmylasta2629 what subsidies?
1
@youtubeshadowbannedmylasta2629 I don't get what your point is? Investment brings returns, this goes into infrastructure which we need to update the grid to enable a more distributed network. Most of it needs building and switching to mass storage no matter the energy source. Total worldwide subbisidies for fossil fuels totaled 7 trillion in 2022 and we see no payback there just tax breaks with zero return to the nation state and increased profits for multinational companies Hinkley C when it ever gets commissioned has 80 billion in subsidies built into its contract over 35 years.

@AbdulEssa-kp4vf my setup came with a battery 10 panels 4.2 kw 1 x 5.2 battery + inverter installed for 7k estimated payback 6 years estimated savings £44,000 over 25 years. As well as grid storage make it easier for domestic storage
1
@AbdulEssa-kp4vf wind is always on as is Nuclear Our grid is sized for peak load The way it's going domestic and grid scale batteries will time shift demand.

Mine are near zero with a solar battery system my provider gives me low cost top up overnight if I need it.
