The figures are 48 Billion a year to build a renewable grid or 6% gdp by 2035 which is cheaper than the subsidies the government gave to the energy sector in fuel support which was 70+ billion in 2023 A big part of this is insulating homes and building new ones to a higher thermal standard this gives large savings to consumers

heat pumps aren't the answer in a lot of cases you should be looking at infrared panels, also my brother lives in Norway he has a small air blow heat pump to heat a 3 bedroom house the reason being its insulated to within an inch of it's life. The government should be focused on getting the UK insulated which would get rid of mould in older properties so they consume a fraction of the energy that is currently needed

@cashkitty3472 my house was built in 1935 its now up to A+ standard you can start with the floor and roof both of mine are double insulated, new windows with the latest glazing. Secondary insulation is Breath Quilt from YBS I found another product which I've used in the upstairs bay windows which are single skined called Ultrotherm I was at the point of needing complete refurbishment but most of what I've done with multifoil products isn't massively expensive and you can retro fit on a DIY basis

China deployed more renewable energy output last year than the rest of the world combined

@boofuu3145 there are Trillions pumped into fossil subsidies around the world including the UK There's around 100 billion on the uk books over the next few years money better spent on going to renewable energy

@yolandascholten2012 Their infrastructure is falling apart loads of municipal heating systems broke down this winter with no parts and no engineers to fix them

@socratesrocks1513 Current chemistry is moving to Sodium Ion and solid state for vehicles. The largest lithium deposits in the world have been found in the US embedded in clay. A US company has come up with a process of removing Lithium from salt water without the evaporation process and are testing it currently Flow batteries sand batteries and liquid air batteries are coming on-stream as different countries come up with new tech for grid scale mass storage. CATYL stopped using cobalt 2 years ago Like everyone anti net zero your information is either 5 years+ out of date or from the fossil lobby or both If you want to get up to speed try YouTube Channel Just have a Think

@shaunluckham1418 Total subsidies on renewables since the entered the Market is 80 billion Total Fossil subsides through the life of the Brent field is around 500 billion (you can compare the tax take from Norway's identical field to get an approximate figure) The Current figure of near 100 billion over the next few years is made up of subsidies for exploration and decommissioning old plant there's also lost tax revenues. Your then tying your grid to world commodity prices of which you have no control. Given the escalating cost of nuclear it's now cheaper to build tidal systems

@shaunluckham1418 Renewable energy became the cheapest on the grid back in 2019 also grid scale storage saves 10's of billions to customers by removing the requirement to have expensive large power stations on standby.

@boofuu3145 There are no subsidies on Renewables as they come online. You have a guaranteed contract price on generation plant. Dogger bank which comes on line this year has a forward contract price of £42 the forward contract price for Hinkley C is around £120 just to put it in comparison. In the States there replacing Gas peak generation plant with mass storage each saving around 1 billion USD to the energy supplier per year.

@boofuu3145 quote Rishi Sunak has been accused of risking Britain’s reputation as a climate leader by announcing tax relief measures that will encourage energy firms to invest in fossil fuel extraction during a climate emergency.

@boofuu3145 I really don't get why you want to pay more for your energy? The numbers flipped in 2019 even the likes of Texas is deploying a huge swathe of onshore wind turbines simply because the electricity they produce is cheap.

@boofuu3145 Norways grid runs on renewables and thier prices are low in comparison to salaries. They also have high ev penetration and low charger prices compared to petrol
