Comments by "Greg Greg" (@SlowhandGreg) on "Reform UK Vows To Scrap Net Zero Targets | “Finally Offering People A Choice!”" video.
1st off the wind blows somewhere in the UK there's is never a dead calm because of the topography and the fact we are at the confluence of major weather systems, 2nd modern turbines turn at speeds as low as 8mph and 3rd when you add mass storage to any grid wholesale prices drop dramatically.

It depends on what you mean by a subsidy? the wholesale price on renewables has been going down steadily and reached parity with Gas back in 2019, a lot of the current energy crisis could have been avoided if we had more on the grid

@petedavies7680 They use Arc furnaces in the US for over 70% of their steel so why not? The point of net zero isn't just to produce more it's insulation to use less, it's planning reform, its timeshifting using smart tech, its mass storage and the removal of peak load plant that runs for minutes in a day and costs billions. As EV's become more popular it will be about mesh networking the batteries onto the grid for power smoothing.

It invests in a renewable grid which gives you access to cheaper electric You build it up front the energy input is free as opposed to squeezing the last ounce of profit from Gas stations all the while gas prices rise. Quote The OBR concludes: the debt impact of future volatility in gas prices is at 13% of the UK gross domestic product (GDP) to 2050. This dwarfs the debt impact of 6% of GDP for investing in net zero.

@JasonKing-m6m I can heat my house by just getting on my cross trainer it's that well insulated. Renewable energy is a fraction of the cost of Nuclear you could fit over 1 million homes with a 2 day battery with the change from an equivalent wind farm

So they want to remove investment which will upgrade our grid making access to cheaper electricity keeping household costs down and spend it on uprating things like IHT So doing what the Tories have been doing for 14 years not investing and trying trickle down policies which have repeatably failed while increasing debt
1
China deployed more renewable energy last year than the rest of the world combined
