abandoning net zero is a political death sentence 1 renewable energy is cheaper and has been since 2019 2 food prices will skyrocket the worse it gets there are already shortages from unexpected winter cold snaps damaging harvests to drought to fungal infections due to persistent rain when it should be dry and warm

Renewable energy has been the cheapest on the grid since 2019 by not deploying more where getting scalped for 10's of billions in EXCESS fossil profits
2
@arthurmackrell8154 The Dogger bank wind farm costs 9 billion in infrastructure cost and produces around the same amount of power as the New hinkley C will at a capital cost of 33 billion (+30 Billion in subsidies over 35 years) The electricity it produced by the Dogger bank site is 3 times cheaper than that proposed by Hinkley Customers are being Fleeced for 170 billion in the current energy crisis because we are tied to GAS
2
cobalt is used in petroleum refineries and Tesla stopped using it last year anyway an EV has 40 moving Parts an ICE vehicle has 4,000 and prices will continue to drop as production ramps up

@dontwastetimetoday493 In the last 2 decades renewables have had around 60 billion in tax breaks and subsidies back in 2019 the forward contract price became on Par with Gas. Fossil has been subsidised at around 10-12 billion a year totaling between 200 billion + in tax breaks and other forms of subsidies Hinkley C will receive 30 billion in subsidies over 35 years its electricity will cost x 2.5 times that of Dogger bank wind farm at roughly the same output which COST 9 billion to build and commision.

@arthurmackrell8154 generation isn't

1
the money goes straight to the oil and gas companies the stuff gets sold on the world commodity market and the Tories are giving them over 100 billion in tax breaks for the pleasure we get fk all bar high energy prices
1
you go to a charging station by the time they come into general use in the cheaper end you'll be able to charge them in a few minutes
1
renewable energy is cheaper has been since 2019 The current energy crisis is caused by our dependence on fossil fuel if we had more renewables we wouldn't have this problem

@Wemdave don't talk rubbish As of 1 April 2022, the main levy stood at a rate of 0.775p per kWh (kilowatt hour) for electricity and 0.568p per kWh for gas. Current subsidised price is 34p so your out by a lot The carbon levy is just another form of tax anyway For rate comparisons wholesale cost Solar park and wind farms' typical operating costs are 2p/kWh. Current price should be 52p per kWh due to our reliance on Gas. In the last 12 months the government have spent 12 billion subsidising fossil energy prices

ICE cars spontaneously combust at a far higher %

@maccagrabme why would you transfer your vote from one bunch of right wing elites who have screwed you over to another bunch who will definitely screw you over?

@beefy0978 if you look at the best place for wind farms in the UK its up north that's down the spine and on the countless shallow offshore shelves you need to build large capacity cables to get it down south and also expand the grid for domestic wind and solar. The grid upgrades in total over time will cost 150 billion this may sound a lot but its not given the scale of what your doing and the fact that the grid needs upgrading anyway but The Tories have bet on gas prices coming down which they won't or not to a degree that makes generation viable To put the 150 billion in context its 20 billion less than the excess profits the uk energy sector will make in 2 years due to this crisis or 10 billion more than got spent on propping up the market in the Truss premiership
1
@maccagrabme the uk is centred where there are multiple weather systems on both sea and land modern turbines turn on as little as 8 mph the point here is we only have 17% generation and that could easily be 40-60% your base load requirements are are around 30-40% Also why isn't the government incetivising us to use less energy? Over the last couple of years in having an extension done I've been turning the house passive with a variety of insulation upgrades the savings you can get are staggering 20% saving for insulating your floor. Mandate higher standards in new builds and extensions. Underfloor heating uses between 20-40% less energy. It's like the government deliberately want to siphon our money to energy companies

what sense Renewable energy has been the cheapest on the grid since 2019 there decrepid clueless elite extionists wining on at each other
